3. Phra Sri Sasada
Phra Sri Sasada has been located at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Phra Sumeru road, Phranakhon, Bangkok, features blended with Sukhothai and Chiang Saen art, Posture of the Buddha Subduing Mara with right leg over left leg, lap width 4 cubits 1 span and 8 inches, and material lacquered and gilded bronze.
Phra Sri Sasada or Phra Sasada is an ancient Buddha image whose history was recorded that King Phra Sri Thamma Tripitaka (King Lithai I) 1907 B.E. of Phitsanulok ordered three Buddha image built at the same time as Phra Buddha Chinaraj, Phra Buddha Chinasiha and PhraSri Sasada. Phra Sri Sasada was established in small Vihara in the south of Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat, Phitsanulok.
The Phra Sri Sasada had been enshrined at Phitsanulok for many hundred year. Later, the abbot of Wat Bang Oi Chang, Nonthaburi invited Phra Sri Sasada to be established at this temple. Later, Somdej Chao Phra Phichaiyat having renvated Wat Praduchimphli and realized the importance and beauty of the Buddha image. So he invited Phra Sri Sasada to be enshrined at Wat Praduchimphli.
In the reign of King Rama IV, King Mongkut was informed of the matter and considered Phra Sri Sasada as an importance Buddha image and it should be established in Royal Monastery.
Therefore he first decided to bring the Buddha image to be enshrined temporarily at Wat Suthat Thepbararam and then he had thought that Phra Buddha Chinasiha and Phra Sri Sasada had at once time been enshrined together at Wat Phra Sri Ratana Mahathat.
After the construction of Vihara, Phra Sri Sasada was moved to be enshrined permanently in the Vihara of Wat Bowonniwet. The Vihara Built specifically for houhing the Phra Sri Sasada was called Phra Sri Sasada Vihara. This Buddha image can be said to have been enshrined at several monasteries.
